The Renesas RE product family is used as the main controller in G-SHOCK watches with heart rate monitoring and GPS functions

Tokyo, Japan, March 18, 2020-Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), the world’s leading semiconductor solutions provider, today announced that Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Casio”) has adopted Renesas ultra-low power consumption The RE product family controller serves as the main controller of the new Casio GBD-H1000 “G-SHOCK” watch. This product is equipped with heart rate monitoring and GPS functions and was released on February 26, 2020.

GBD-H1000 is the latest member of Casio’s G-SHOCK series of shock-resistant watches. It is equipped with: an optical sensor that measures heart rate by detecting changes in blood flow under the skin; a triple sensor that measures compass azimuth, atmospheric pressure/altitude and temperature ; GPS function that can obtain location information, and acceleration sensor that can measure the number of steps and distance traveled. Renesas’ ultra-low power RE product family controller achieves high-load processing capabilities inside the watch, while at the same time extremely low power consumption, helping to create user-friendly watch products. This watch can achieve multiple functions and only needs solar power for daily life.

The RE product family controller used in the new watch is based on Renesas’ unique SOTB process technology, achieving industry-leading ultra-low power consumption in both working and standby modes. Renesas and Casio started cooperation at the initial stage of the development of the GBD-H1000 watch, and jointly promoted the realization of the product’s multi-function and low power consumption.
